Alert

Alerts are used to communicate a state that affects a system, feature or page.

Import#

Chakra UI exports 4 alert related components.

Alert: The wrapper for alert components.
AlertIcon: The visual icon for the alert that changes based on the status prop.
AlertTitle: The title of the alert to be announced by screen readers.
AlertDescription: The description of the alert to be announced by screen readers.

Usage#

Status#

Change the status of the alerts by passing the status prop. This affects the color scheme and icon used. Alert supports error, success, warning, and info statuses.

Variant#

Alert has 4 variant styles you can use. Pass the variant prop and use either subtle, solid, left-accent or top-accent.

Composition#

Alert ships with smaller components to allow for flexibility in creating all kinds of layouts. Here's an example of a custom alert style and layout:

Alert can also incorporate other Chakra components. Here's an example of an alert with wrapping description text and the CloseButton component with simple close functionality:

The Alert component is a multipart component. The styling needs to be applied to each part specifically.

Theming properties#

The properties that affect the theming of the Alert component are:

variant: The visual variant of the alert. Defaults to subtle.
colorScheme: The color combination of the alert. Defaults to blue.

Theming utilities#

createMultiStyleConfigHelpers: a function that returns a set of utilities for creating style configs for a multipart component (definePartsStyle and defineMultiStyleConfig).
definePartsStyle: a function used to create multipart style objects.
defineMultiStyleConfig: a function used to define the style configuration for a multipart component.

Customizing the default theme#

After customizing the alert theme, we can import it in our theme file and add it in the components property:

This is a crucial step to make sure that any changes that we make to the alert theme are applied.

Adding a custom size#

Let's assume we want to include an extra large input size. Here's how we can do that:

Adding a custom variant#

Let's assume we want to include a custom variant. Here's how we can do that:
